Altai Tavan Bogd National Park is in Bayan-Ulgii Province, Mongolia. From Ulgii center to Altai Tavan Bogd  National Park is 180 km. The National Park includes 636,200 hectares in Bayan-Ulgii province including Tsengel Soum, Ulaanhus Soum, Sagsai Soum and Altai Soum.  The Tavan Bogd (Five Saints) chain includes the highest peak in Mongolia, Khuiten Uul (4,353 m), which overlooks the frontiers with China and Russia. This National Park includes very high peaks, with eternal snow and glaciers in the far west of Mongolia. A stunning landscape of high glaciated snow capped mountains, alpine and sup-alpine forests, large lakes, rivers and streams, mountain grasslands, barren rocky mountain ranges and semi-arid desert type valleys. 

 

Altai tavan bogd tour - 13 day

Day 1: Arrive Ulaanbaatar
By your arrival in UB meet by our guide and transfer to hotel.

 

 

Day 2: Ulaanbaatar city tour
We will do city site seeing tour. Explore Gandan Monastery, National Historical Museum, Sukhbaatar square and see monument of Genghis Khan and  tour to Zaisan Hill Memorial and Buddha Garden. Lunch and  dinner time in a typical Mongolian Restaurant.

 

 

Day 3:   Ulgii city       
Come  to Ulgii city and meet our guide and driver. Transfer  to the hotel/ger camp  and have a lunch.Visit the local museum of Ulgii town with comprenhensive information of flora and fauna of Bayan Ulgii aimag as well as it colourfull traditional costumes. (Ger is the Mongolian word for "Nomad Tent". )

Day 6: Peak Malchin  of Altai Tavan Bogd 
Today we will have an optional acclimatization climb up at Malchin peak, that stretches for 4051 m above sea level, as the lowest of the peaks around. This mountain lies along the borderline of Mongolia and Russia and offers a spectacular view over the Potanin’s glacier  and snow peaked summits of Altai Mountain range. Back to the bas camp for preparation of next day’s foray to highest peak of Mongolia. Overnight at tent. 

 

Day 5:Drive to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park
 Today we will have full day drive to Altai Tavanbogd National Park (means The Holy Five) via Tsagaan Gol (White river) valley and through Altai Mountains that are Mongolia’s largest and highest mountain range more than 3000-4000 meters high. One famous spot is “Shiveet Hairhan” Sacred Mountain, where we will see the largest rock painting site from the period of the Huns (approx 200 B.C.) Overnight in tent 

 

Day 4:  Drive to lake Dayan and khurgan
Early morning hiking around lake Dayan. After lunch, drive nearby western side of Khurgan Nuur and Khoton Nuur, where many Nomadic Kazakh families spend summer. Along the lakes, we see the beautiful waterfall, rock paintings and some ancient Turkic stones with face.  Overnight in tent on Snake valley where you have a chance to see numerous Turkic stones with face. 
 

 

Day 11:  – Tsagaan gol 
Heading downhill we will trek to Tsagaan gol valley following the white glacier river and beautiful deep canyons, Near the tuvan gers we will cross the glacier Tsagaan gol river trough bridgeIn the evening we would visit a local Tuvan family.  This very little population of Tuvan  people are keeping their old tradition as it was. They believe on Shamanism.   

 

Day 7-10: Peak Huitin of  Altai Tavan Bogd Camp.
We will climb to Altai Tavan bogd referring to the peaks of
Huiten - 4374m and the highest. It is a stunning setting with the awe inspiring massif of high snow capped peaks. We will reach the 20km long Potanina glacier, which is ice river starts from Altai Tavan Bogd Snow Peaks. Back to base camp and overnight in tent.

 

Day 12 Return to Ulgii
After early breakfast, drive via Ulaanhus over desert mountain landscapes, with the snow-capped Sogoog Mountain as a powerful backdrop and the Altai Mountain range ahead of us. Enjoy photographing the charming landscape. After 5-6 hours, arrive back to Ulgii town. Overnight in tourist camp.  

 

Day 13:Fly to UB
After breakfast, you will be driven back to internal airport, Ulgii with your guide for your return flight to Ulaanbaatar. End trip
