In western Mongolia, deep within the Altai mountain range, an ancient tradition of hunting with Golden Eagles is still alive.
The Kazakhs of Mongolia train their eagles to hunt and here the bird of prey is often considered a family member. Once a year, hunters from all over Bayan-Olgii province gather to celebrate this traditional skill and compete against each other challenges that show off the abilities of both birds and their trainers. Prizes are awarded for the fastest eagle, the best traditional Kazakh dress, and more. Various folklore performances are given during the festival.
Golden Eagle Festival tour - 10 day
Day 1: Arrive Ulaanbaatar
By your arrival in UB meet by our guide and transfer to hotel.
Day 2: Ulaanbaatar city tour
We will do city site seeing tour. Explore Gandan Monastery, National Historical Museum, Sukhbaatar square and see monument of Genghis Khan and tour to Zaisan Hill Memorial and Buddha Garden. Lunch and dinner time in a typical Mongolian Restaurant.
Day 3: Ulgii city
Come to Ulgii city and meet our guide and driver. Transfer to the hotel/ger camp and have a lunch.Visit the local museum of Ulgii town with comprenhensive information of flora and fauna of Bayan Ulgii aimag as well as it colourfull traditional costumes. (Ger is the Mongolian word for "Nomad Tent". )

Day 7: Return to Ulgii
After early breakfast, drive via Ulaanhus over desert mountain landscapes, with the snow-capped Sogoog Mountain as a powerful backdrop and the Altai Mountain range ahead of us. Enjoy photographing the charming landscape. After 5-6 hours, arrive back to Ulgii town. Overnight in tourist camp.
Day 5: Eagle festival
The second day of the festival includes competitions and presentations of the special relationship between the trainer and his bird of prey, which is often considered a family member. You will be able to experience a number of Kazakh traditions on first-hand. Mingle with the hunters, watch them pampering their birds and cheer for the competitors against the backdrop of the high Altai mountains. Overnight in a ger camp.
Day 4: Eagle festival
Today we participate in the first day of the Golden Eagle Festival. About 80 Eagle trainers will gather to show their skills and their eagle’s abilities. The festival will begin with the hunters displaying their traditional Kazakh dress and their eagle's equipment and ornaments. For the next 2 days you will observe an exciting and authentic event which consists not only on eagle hunter's competitions, but also other Kazakh traditional games. Overnight in ger camp.
Day 8: Fly to UB -Terelj national park
In the morning we will visit the local bazaar in Ulgii, time permitting, and then catch the first available flight to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival, we drive to Terelj national park, about 90 minutes out of the city. Overnight in a ger camp.
Day 6: To visit Kazakh Eaglehunters famly.
Drive to the village of Sagsai to stay with an eagle-hunter and his family. Go hunting everday, riding horseback along with the hunter as he explores the mountains in every direction in search of prey. Who is Tauekel one of the most famous and experience eagle-hunters in the region.Tauekel has been hunting for more than 12 years and now he focuses on passing the craft onto the next generation of hunters.
Day 9: Terelj national park-Ulaanbaatar
We return to Ulaanbaatar where we begin the day with a few hours exploring the Black Market. A visit to the market is a colorful experience which gives the visitor an insight to the everyday life of the people of Ulaanbaatar.
Overnight in 4 star hotel.
Day 10: Departure from Ulaanbaatar
After breakfast transfer to the airport for your departing flight.
